Menneskerettigheder, nabolande og Asien

The Human rights, neighbouring countries and Asia department gathers the Danish Institute for Human Rights' main projects in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), in Europe and in Asia.

The department work primarily on projects pertaining to the governance of human rights and including elements of access to justice.

In the MENA, we are a member of the consortium Human Rights and Inclusion (HRIC) of the Danish Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) and the lead of TRUST consortium financed by the Swiss Development Cooperation.

Our work in both programmes focuses on strengthening the capacities of the state actors of the human rights system, especially national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and governmental human rights focal points (GHRFPs), including national mechanisms for the implementation of recommendations and follow-up (NMRIFs).

In most of our projects we focus on the role of these two state actors as well as interactions among them and with international human rights mechanisms. We also work with the Independent Commission of Human Rights in Palestine.

Building on decades of experience working in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Asia, the new Europe/Asia team is in the process of developing interventions for NHRIs and other actors in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Afghanistan and Indonesia. In addition, we are working with a consortium supporting academic programmes in Myanmar.
