At a time when Danish prison conditions are increasingly brutalised, my PhD dissertation focuses on vulnerable groups of prison inmates and LGBTI+ discrimination. No research has yet illuminated LGBTI+ people’s experiences of incarceration in Denmark, the character of discrimination faced by the group from fellow inmates, prison staff, and the prison system, or the consequences of strong prison hierarchies, increased brutalisation, and prison violence to LGBTI+ individuals. Hence, my research focuses on how LGBTI+ people experience their minority status in Danish prisons and how current prison conditions can endanger an already at-risk LGBTI+ population.
