Say no to discrimination in encounters with the authorities

Legislation

You have the right to equal treatment regardless of your gender, disability, race or your ethnic origin, for instance when:

  • applying for social benefits, such as cash or child benefits, from your municipality
  • receiving services, home care or domestic help, from your municipality
  • applying for and receiving educational aid from public funds, a study loan or housing benefit
  • receiving letters from public authorities
  • you have an item that is being considered
  • frequenting a public swimming pool or other public facilities
  • attending a public library
  • you have a child who is attending a daycare facility or school

Advice and assistance

The Danish Institute for Human Rights (Institut for Menneskerettigheder) can advise and assist if you feel you have been discriminated against due to your gender, race or ethnic origin.

Where to complain

You can contact the Board of Equal Treatment (Ligebehandlingsnævnet) if you believe you have been subjected to discrimination due to your gender, race or your ethnic origin.
