Say no to discrimination in encounters with the health services

Legislation

You have the right to equal treatment regardless of your gender, disability, race or ethnic origin, for instance when:

  • consulting your doctor
  • phoning the emergency call service
  • at a hospital trauma and emergency unit
  • in hospital
  • receiving treatment such as occupational- and physiotherapy etc.
  • being attended to by a district nurse
  • at the dentist’s

Advice and assistance

The Danish Institute for Human Rights (Institut for Menneskerettigheder) can advise and assist if you feel you have been discriminated against due to your gender, race or ethnic origin.

Where to complain

You can contact the Board of Equal Treatment (Ligebehandlingsnævnet) if you believe you have been subjected to discrimination due to your gender, race or your ethnic origin.
